Road Safety Campaign encourages you to plan ahead and stay safe this Christmas

The Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service have organised an awareness day to highlight the preventative measures you can take to help reduce potential road traffic accidents.

The festive season is fast approaching, and along with the chilly weather comes, sleet, snow and the dreaded lethal black ice.

Now is the time to check out your car tyres and brakes, and to pop a can of de-icer and even an emergency breakdown pack with a blanket in your car - just in case. Accidents can happen to anyone but putting safety first can help to prevent them and can save lives.

We all love to enjoy ourselves and have a couple of drinks with family and friends, so let you hair down, have a ball, but remember to book yourself a taxi home.

Christmas is a time for being with the people you love, so stay safe and don’t take any chances. Stay alive-don’t drink and drive!

A Christmas Road Safety Campaign will be outside Halfords in Barrow on Wednesday 19th December from 11am until 2pm.

Firefighters will be cutting up a scrap vehicle to demonstrate the potential devastation caused in a car crash.

Community staff from Asda and Tesco will be attending too as they promote a selection of low/no alcohol drinks for designated drivers to choose from.
