Little & Caine transform run down building into new state-of-the-art chapel

Little & Caine Funeral Directors have transformed a run down building on Dalkeith Street in Barrow, which has stood empty for many years.

The recently opened “Trevelyan” Service Chapel is a wonderful new addition to Little and Caine’s provision of funeral services to the community, being the only one of its kind in the area. The site has undergone major development to create a state-of-the-art space in which this independent family run firm can now offer bespoke facilities and technology, to meet the needs of families, creating individual and tailored goodbyes, fitting for your loved one.

Little and Caine have, for 3 generations, strived to make one of the most difficult times in our lives easier to cope with, through all aspects of its care and quality facilities and delivered by their experienced staff.

This significant investment in the Furness Community has been carried out with the aim of increasing the range of options available to families, in terms of funeral planning and what we, as funeral directors, can provide.

The Chapel has been named after the Trevelyan Hotel, which stood on the same site and was destroyed during the bombing of 1941.

When visiting the Chapel, you will instantly feel warmly welcomed by the gentle tones, soft lighting and comfortable interiors which create an elegant, calm and peaceful environment, where personalised family wishes can be fulfilled and delivered.

In these modern times, diversity is at the heart of our culture. The people of Furness and the community at large, have a wide-ranging variety of beliefs, needs and wishes when planning a funeral.  The beauty of the new Service Chapel is that its establishment now provides unlimited options to address the changing pace of funerals and family requests. You can now choose “who” conducts the service; whether it is a religious leader, humanist or celebrant minister, a family member.  You can also select “when” the service takes place. We aim to provide flexibility to fit in with your ever-busy lives and to cater for those families who have far afield family members, as gathering together may prove difficult. With this in mind, the Chapel is available Saturdays and Sundays as well as week days.

The Trevelyan Chapel can host 96 seated guests, with ample standing space to accommodate larger services within the Chapel. All access points and the Chapel itself, are friendly to wheelchair users or those with mobility issues. The Chapel has comfortable lounge areas for loved ones to gather and chat in privacy, if they wish.  We allow a minimum of 1.5 hours between services to enable families sufficient time to meet prior to the service, attend the service and leave the chapel, without any time constraints. Immediate family members have access to 8 parking places on our forecourt. The Chapel is also within walking distance of local public transport links, central town car-parks and facilities.

Our modern lives involve many choices: this is no different when arranging a loved one’s goodbye. Many people today want a service with a difference, that reflects the true personality of their loved one. Little and Caine’s Trevelyan Chapel provides the facilities to create something truly unique, if you choose. It is equipped with “live-stream” capabilities to permit relatives, who for example are unable to attend the service, to feel included in this most important occasion with the use of Webcam or a recording. This also means that a service can be captured as a memento should you wish. The Chapel accommodates a state-of-the-art video system, where slideshows or still photos of your loved one can be displayed on a screen at the front of the Chapel, during the service, if so desired, to give an added personal touch.

Little and Caine Limited have been a local shoulder to lean on for many years, spanning three generations. Paul and his team are proud that his family business can demonstrate the level of commitment to the people of Furness.  This truly is “our family looking after your family” at a great time of sadness, where we can offer you all the practical and emotional help and support you need.

If you are interested to know more and would like to take a look at the new Trevelyan Chapel, the Little and Caine team will be glad to show you around. There is no need to book an appointment.
