14-year-old Barrow boy arrested on suspicion of three arson offences

Officers investigating a series of fires in Low White Close are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The most recent incident occurred sometime between 10pm and 11.45pm last night (13 Sept) with a fire having been started inside a premises.

Last week a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following two fires in Low White Close – one at around 8.30pm on 3 September and one overnight 5 September into 6 September.

Cumbria Constabulary is working closely with Cumbria Fire and Rescue and Barrow Borough Housing as part of the investigation.

Following last night’s Ormsgill flat fire incident, a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of three arson offences. He is currently in police custody.

Incident Details: At 23:36, Three fire engines from Barrow, Ulverston and Walney attended a persons reported fire on Low White Close, Barrow. Fire crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and thermal imaging camera to tackle the fire. Crews were on scene for approximately one hour.

Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue will be carrying out joint patrols in the Ormsgill area. Officers are urging anyone who witnesses anything suspicious to Detective Constable 1499 Jesson on 101. Always call 999 in an emergency or where a crime is in progress.

People living in the area of the flats are asked to keep communal areas free of rubbish as an extra fire safety measure.
