
Police are dealing with several incidents on the M6 in Cumbria as snow and ice causes travel chaos.
A large number of roads are affected throughout Cumbria and will remain so with further snow for the area expected.
M6 Northbound closed, hazardous driving conditions due to ice and snow between J38 A685 / B6260 (Tebay) and J39 B6261 (Shap).
M6 Southbound lane blocked on entry slip road due to accident, ice and snow at J36 A590 (Kirkby Lonsdale). Approach with care.
Two lanes blocked and queuing traffic due to jackknifed lorry on M6 Southbound between J42 A6 / B6263 (Carlisle South) and J41 B5305 (Catterlen).
Cumbria Roads Police have tweeted to say J39 - J40 is badly affected by drifting snow and snowdrifts particularly northbound in the area of Shap Beck. They are currently attending 2 separate reports of road traffic collisions. Traffic is queuing and near zero visibility at some points.
