Local man left devastated after family dog Lenny killed by hit-and-run driver

A local man and his family have been left devastated after a driver ran over their pet dog and didn't stop.

Frank Watson took to Facebook last Sunday and said: "To the person who has just run my dog over outside my house at the Old chapel, Tarn Flatt, Marton. I seriously hope you report it to the police before I find you! What kind of sick person can kill a pet and just drive off."

Currently the Road Traffic Act 1988 only gives rules around certain types of animals: dogs, goats, horses, cattle, donkeys, mules, sheep and pigs. If you hit one of these animals you are required by law to report it to the police.

If you hit an animal that is not included in the Road Traffic Act, such as a cat or a fox, you are not legally required to report it but you may wish to contact the police to inform them of the incident anyway.

Jordan Watson also posted to Facebook and said: "At some point this morning, some sick heartless individual has run over our family dog Lenny, right outside our house and not even bothered to stop and tell us.

"Poor Len was found by a neighbour, I know it's a long shot but if anybody hears anything please let us know.

"Rest in peace Lenny."

The incident happened outside The Old Chapel in Marton on the morning of Sunday 11th March 2018.

Police have been informed, should you have any information please call 101.
