Women suffering hypothermia found and rescued after 40m drop from Barrow slag bank

Emergency crews worked together through icy cold conditions to find and rescue a woman in need.

Furness Coastgaurd were called to their first call out of 2019 to reports of a missing woman near the slag bank in Barrow.

Their pagers set off at 20:42 and the team quickly assembled to rendezvous with Cumbria Police, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, Millom Coastguard Rescue Team, Duddon Inshore-rescue and Barrow Lifeboat.

A plan was created and teams set out to search for the missing lady. After a shoreline search, the lady was located who was suffering from injuries and hypothermia having fallen 40 metres from the top of the Slag Bank.

The casualty was stabilised and first aid administered before stretchering the casualty back along the beach and into the care of North West Ambulance Service.

A positive outcome and great multi agency work from all teams accross the Furness area.
